Where to find Korean and Japanese design objects in Dubai

Dubai is not short on places to buy nice things. It is short on places that tell you why a thing is worth owning. If you're looking for Korean or Japanese design objects here, it helps to know what each place is actually for.

For everyday volume, the big names do the job. Muji has stores across the UAE and a solid online shop — clean, cheap, reliable. Daiso covers the fun, disposable end from a few dirhams. Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall has one of the best stationery floors in the region, deep in Japanese pens and notebooks. Online, Desertcart and Ubuy will import almost anything Korean if you're willing to wait.

So what's missing?

Curation. Almost all of the above is a catalogue — thousands of SKUs, no point of view. Great when you know exactly what you want. Less useful when you want one good object and someone you trust to tell you it's the right one.
